<image:caption>These slot canyons in Utah are amazing! This was a fun hike in, lots of neat little ice bridges to negotiate and sketch out about on the way up. I love the ominous cave behind the falls giving way to the warm soft light above, all wrapped up in a scene that looks like something out of an Indiana Jones movie.</image:caption>

      <image:title>California - Fiery Gates</image:title>
<image:caption>Smoke from fires Sept 2017 made for interesting morning hues at the iconic Gates of Yosemite location. I was staying at a cabin in West Yosemite and the drive down around 530am did not seem promising, totally socked in with smoke and I thought it very unlikely I would get any visibility down there. Alas, the morning sunrise lit up the valley from the east and turned the grey smoke into a delightful array of pastels. It is of course never awesome when Yosemite is burning, but I am grateful I was there to experience this unique sunrise at the Gates.</image:caption>

      <image:title>California - Galaxy Road Convergence</image:title>
<image:caption>Just adore how the fence and road collide almost perfectly center here, converging nicely to lead the eye up to the mountains and Milky Way. While this may look like a composite, it is not (none of my photos are unless explicitly disclaimed!). The light you see leaking in from the right side of the frame is Mammoth Lakes. The very light pink tickles you see on the clouds in the left frame are from the very very earliest tid-bits of pre dawn light. Quite a magical combo!</image:caption>

      <image:title>California - Salty Reflections</image:title>
<image:caption>The South Tufas at Mono Lake are a must see attraction in the Eastern Sierra region. You can learn more about how are they are formed with a quick google search, but if I am understanding it correctly (which I probably am not, I am not a scientist) essentially calcium and salt rich waters from mountain run off collide with freshwater streams and precipitate into these towers, as there is no run out from Mono Lake. Over many thousands of years the water receding exposed what we now call the Tufas at Mono Lake. This was a nice calm sunset with fantastic reflections, that I enjoyed with my fiance Katherine and our pooch Alfred.</image:caption>

      <image:title>California - Mobius Nights</image:title>
<image:caption>Here you see Lone Pine Peak (often mistaken as Mt. Whitney which is actually behind the right side of the arch) sitting nicely centered inside Mobius Arch. This is a quick and fun loop hike in the Alabama Hills, one of my all time favorite locations. After a relatively dull sunset, I was really grateful I stuck around for a bit to get this wonderful purple/pink combo in the sky during blue hour. The ‘Hills are comprised of exposed bedrock which has been shaped into these other-worldly formations through a chemical weathering process known as spheroidal weathering, which can and often does result in the formation of natural arches like Mobius Arch seen here. Mobius is one of several cool arches you can get easy access to in the Alabama Hills.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Patagonia - Good Morning Fitz</image:title>
<image:caption>Fitz Roy to the right and Cerro Torre to the left, and Laguna Torre at the foot of the mountains. This was a tough morning starting in pretty cold weather and lots of cold sweats with 6+ miles of 10-20% grade. So, it isn’t that steep, but it is completely relentless. Round trip over 12.5 miles and 6,000+ vertical feet of up and down.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Patagonia - Hidden Falls Sunset</image:title>
<image:caption>Not so hidden, but incredibly gorgeous….one of the main challenges shooting here is finding a composition that is not littered with other photographers. As many as 50 could be there at any given sunrise or sunset! Hidden Falls is just a few mile hike from the town of El Chalten, and is one of those places that just doesn’t seem real. With Fitz Roy towering in the background, the vivid fall colors of Patagonia, and the falls and stream winding delicately through it all, it was a pinch yourself sort of moment.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Patagonia - Deep Breaths</image:title>
<image:caption>El Chalten, taken with a long range lens from Hidden Falls. Not sure the name of this peak. Whenever I see cloud cover or snow blowing over ridges on peaks like this, I always think it looks like the mountain is taking deep breaths.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Patagonia - Hermosa Manana con Los Cuernos</image:title>
<image:caption>Beautiful morning with the Horns of Torres del Paine. I had this little cove all to myself. We were lucky to have several gorgeous sunrises during our trip to Torres del Paine in April 2019.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Patagonia - Misty Mountain Hues</image:title>
<image:caption>Lake Pehoe sunrise. I don’t what I can say to do this moment justice. Shane was a cove or two taking an amazing shot of his own. I managed to get myself perched and the tripid setup in a funky little ledge to get this fall foliage in the foreground. I am glad I didn’t drop my entire rig in the lake, which almost happened a couple times. I literally did pinch myself a couple times during this sunrise. As the image title might suggest, I kept thinking about the Zeppelin track “Misty Mountain Hop”, as the low flying cloud cover migrated across the scene.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Patagonia - Last Chance to Reflect</image:title>
<image:caption>Final evening in Patagonia, Lake Pehoe once again. Compositionally sort of a wider framed idea of the Misty Mountain Hop comp. Decided to jump in and dig the moment for a rare self portrait. We were lucky to have the wind go almost completely dead for a good chunk of time during blue hour.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Patagonia - Toca de Rosa</image:title>
<image:caption>Lake Pehoe once again. We actually got a little faked on this sunrise. I am definitely not complaining, but looking at this image, you’d think “that sky must’ve blown up about 5 minutes later”…but the horizon got stuffed, and it went all gray! I am glad I was set up and firing when this touch of pink moment happened and only lasted about 60 seconds.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Patagonia - Reflections de Azul</image:title>
<image:caption>Laguna Azul is located in Torres del Paine National Park in Patagonia (Chile). It is a nice day trip from anywhere one might be staying in or nearby the park (by car). We lucked out with the midday winds dying completely and the lake going sheet glass for several minutes.</image:caption>
